Eutopia is a Party
Our right to amass personal fortunes, hoard resources/property and exploit each other is exchanged for deeper fundamental securities of living for everyone on Earth; for peace, prosperity and fairness, and hope of surviving global heating, the sixth mass extinction and perpetual or total war (without resorting to totalitarianism). With the promise of personal security (for all), we can expect a rapid decline in conflict, terrorism, crime, loneliness, etc.
What I’m proposing here may seem radical to some, but it’s actually quite banal; a mundane framework; an alternative system for us to live and hang our cultures on. The real beauty of a fairer, kinder world that appeals to our best nature (rather than our worst) is ‘the party that isn’t a do’151 enjoyed more fully by all the living. It is soul, intimacy, wonder, elation, and healing from trauma that the economic system of a complex society can only help facilitate (or hinder).
This Greenprint outlines the big picture of an optional twist in our plot, but the transition to Eutopia will always be carried out by billions of people enacting trillions of tiny actions. These are the daily peace talks, getting out of bed to do something that needs doing, nurturing children and each other, and being the fabulous loving primates we are beneath our inherited traumas.
